Human Design was named one of the top “in” trends for 2023 by the Washington Post, and it was no surprise to me. I had already watched what this system did to my own coaching and consulting practice.
For those who may not be familiar with it, Human Design is a typing system that gives a person a specific, mechanical roadmap for living in alignment with their own nature. Understanding your own design changes how you make decisions, how you communicate, and how well you can actually use the strengths you were born with instead of the ones you were trained to perform.
What it changes about your practice
As a coach or consultant, bringing Human Design into your work gives you something most modalities cannot: a read on the client that does not depend on what they tell you about themselves.
Clients are unreliable narrators of their own behavior. They describe the person they have been conditioned to be, not the one sitting in the chair. A chart shows you their decision-making mechanics directly: where they have consistent energy, where they are open and therefore susceptible, and what they are actually built to do for a living.
That means you stop giving good advice that does not fit. You stop telling a Advisor (Projector) to hustle. You stop telling a Builder to initiate. You stop diagnosing as a discipline problem what is really a design mismatch.
It also changes your tone. It is much easier to work with someone compassionately when you can see that the thing they are ashamed of is structural rather than a personal failing.
Why business, specifically
Most Human Design training is aimed at personal awakening. That is valuable, and it is not what a business client is paying for.
The business application asks a different question: not who are you really, but how do you make a living as who you really are. Which settings bring your capacities out. Which partnerships work. Where your money actually comes from. Those are answerable from a chart, and they are answers a client will pay for because they map onto a problem they already know they have.
That is the gap worth training into. The demand for practitioners who can do this well keeps growing, and the supply of people who can do it in business language, rather than spiritual language, stays thin.
